Wz.29 bayonet replica

The last prewar Polish bayonet model

This is a true in all details wz.29 bayonet replica, made in limited series.
In 1929 a new short rifle (then called a carbine) was introduced into the Polish Army’s inventory, based o­n the tried Mauser 98 action, designated the „karabinek wz.29” (or „Model of 1929 Carbine”). The series production begun in 1930, exclusively at the Fabryka Broni in Radom, and the new rifle was issued with a new model of bayonet, initially known as the „wz.28”, and then the model designation was unified with the rifle, to read „wz.29”.
This was a short bayonet with a knife-shaped blade, mounted o­nto the rifle in two places (the usual hilt mechanism to be snapped upon the front band’s bayonet lug and a muzzle ring incorporated into the quillon for a more secure fit). The bayonets were manufactured with dull edge, to serve as a thrust weapon mainly, but in 1939, during the mobilization, some units applied a so-called „combat grind”, and the edges were sharpened. Between 1930 and 1939 a total of 265 000 wz.29 carbines were manufactured at the Fabryka Broni in Radom, together with 44 500 wz.98a modernized Mauser 98 long rifles, each fitted with a wz.29 bayonet. These bayonets were also supplied to the Polish Army by the Warsaw-based Towarzystwo Fabryki Motorów „Perkun” (Perkun Motor Plant Co.).
The Radom-manufactured bayonets were of superior quality, and are still much sought-after by the collectors the world over.
We hope that a detailed replica, true to original in every aspect, would appeal to militaria-collectors and re-enactors and would make you reflect upon the heroism of the soldiers who used them against the overwhelming odds. The century-old French adage has it that: „An Infantry Rifle sans Bayonet is like a bare-headed Soldier”.
